The PIGGYPOT teaches children to budget and save up money in an increasingly cashless world. We created a piggy bank that is relevant for today’s world but still true to the old historical features and design of the piggy bank. The PIGGYPOT is full of personality while being customisable by the user. We believe fun and interactive engagements are key for teaching children key skills with respect to budgeting and building up savings.
The PIGGYPOT is initially set up with a parent through the parental app. Here the child can decide on 4 goals they would like to save money for, and the parents can also allocate money to the child’s toy card through the app. The PIGGYPOT has 3 stages: 1) ‘sleep mode’ when the PIGGYPOT is not being interacted with, 2) ‘financial mode’ when the toy credit card is inserted, as well as 3) ‘non-financial mode’ when the toy credit card has not been inserted.
Starting from a cardboard prototype and some storyboards, we create the model on Fusion 360 and then developed the object using laser cutting techniques and 3D printing. Thanks to an Arduino and some microcontrollers like encoders, sensors, and potentiometers, we were able to control the flow of the Figma prototype on the screen, making the experience as realistic as possible.
